Developing Excellence in English Literature & Language, and Drama

I am an award winning writer, theatre-maker, creative director, and qualified English as a Foreign Language Tutor based in Macclesfield. I have two masters degrees; one in theatre from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and one in creative writing from Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I have taught 1-to-1, in schools, colleges and universities (including Columbia Uni, University of Sydney, Bolton Uni and Guildhall) since 2010. I have a 100% success rate and will teach online or in-person.

Tutoring Experience

I am experienced in fostering one-to-one students as well as large workshop groups. I have a highly developed sense of how to get the best out of someone, whether that be in text analysis, writing essays, creative work, public speaking, or learning English from scratch.

My English Lit/Lang students have achieved level 9 when predicted a 4 within a year. I have coached for RADA's Spoken Shakespeare Certificates up to Gold Certificate. I have tutored students sitting AQA and Edexcel exam boards for GCSE and A-Level. Whatever your English Literature, Language, Public Speaking, or Acting needs, I am here to help.

Tutoring Approach

I will always begin with a needs and skills analysis to make sure we have a clear and measurable aim in sight and the right path to success. My students enjoy a relaxed but rigorous atmosphere. It is important that they know that with me they can ask the stupid questions, learn from mistakes, and grow in skills and confidence. Through bravely making mistakes, hard work, rigour, and re-finding the love of the subject we can not only achieve academic results, but discover a passion for a lifetime. Through rediscovering a love of English my students have all achieved their aims, whether that is to move from a level 3-4 predicted grade to a level 8 and 9, or to get their place at business school.
