Having been lucky enough to study engineering at Cambridge University I model my lessons on the personal learning environment provided by the supervision system. Tackling interesting problems as a partnership represents a more engaging and fulfilling way to learn.
In my GCSEs and A levels I gained A-stars in all the subjects that I studied (with the exception of A level economics). I went on to complete a Masters in Engineering at the University of Cambridge and a Masters in Science Communication at Cardiff University. I specialise in Maths and Physics tutoring.
Tutoring draws from who I am. My enthusiasm for gaining knowledge and skills is supported by an aptitude for it. I am an empathetic person, and find deep satisfaction in using my abilities to help students gain a new relationship with the subject. Satisfaction where there was frustration. Confidence where there was doubt. My ambition is to help learners feel more fulfilled in their studies, whatever that means to the individual.
Outside of my tutoring I am studying Psychodynamic Counselling at Brighton University and teaching computer programming on behalf of Code Camp UK.
I have 100+ hours experience as a Maths, Physics and Computer Science tutor across GCSE, A level, IB and University levels and within the AQA, Edexcel, IB, OCR and Eduqas boards. I find it extremely rewarding to help students gain confidence and achieve their potential.
Alongside tutoring I work as a teacher for Code Camp UK, teaching the fundamentals of computer programming in after-school clubs.
My enthusiasm for education has also led me to volunteer as an assistant GCSE Maths teacher at Parkside Community College, a Science Ambassador for the Science Museum and an Oxbridge admissions mentor for Insight Outreach.
I am a qualified ski instructor and was a content producer for the online Maths and Physics revision platform provided by Up Learn.
Marcel, IB Maths:
'Sam has been an amazing tutor, very welcoming and friendly. His lessons were always well prepared, and he had excellent knowledge of the topics, even if it was beyond syllabus. Sam was very flexible and always very organised. He explained everything very clearly. I would recommend him to anyone.'
Jenny, A level physics:
‘Sam has a very friendly, kind and approachable manner, shows patience when teaching and has allowed my son’s confidence in his Physics ability to grow. Sam is clearly a highly intelligent individual but is also capable of teaching those ideas and theories at a level appropriate to the student. I have no hesitation in recommending Sam.’
Passion not pressure. This is the motto that underpins my lessons. Having identified what a student wants to get out of our lessons, we will explore the material together and apply it to solve problems in real-world contexts.
