Ruth

Current Availability: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays 3.30-6.30. My name is Ruth and I absolutely love teaching, particularly teenagers, who can sometimes get a bit of a bad press. I specialise in tutoring GCSE & A Level English language & literature & particularly enjoy helping children with ADHD, ADD and Dyslexia. When I'm not teaching I love to swim in the sea and try to stay active and happy.

Tutoring Experience

Over 25 years teaching experience, both in The UK and abroad. I taught English as a 2nd language for many years and worked for The British Council in Thailand, Egypt and Venezuela. I then trained as a Design & Technology teacher by doing a PGCE to gain Qualified Teacher status and taught in Secondary Schools in The UK for 10 years. I specialise in teaching children with ADHD, ADD and Dyslexia.

Tutoring Approach

Learning should be fun and it's well-known that children learn better and faster when they feel happy, confident and relaxed. I aim to be friendly and approachable to ensure that children are ready to learn to the best of their ability. Students tend to have different ways of learning and it's important to work with these. For example, if someone primarily remembers things by seeing them, then I will use lots of visual aids such as pictures, diagrams, video clips, to work with their visual learning style. Others remember much better by writing things down, learning them by heart and then being frequently tested. I feel that it is really important to treat each new student as an individual, with their own unique needs and style of learning. There is no charge for the first introductory meeting where we get to know each other and i find out how I can best help you. I specialise in teaching children with ADHD, ADD and Dyslexia, particularly those who are working towards GCSE/A level English language & literature
