I'm a South African medical doctor currently completing a Master’s degree at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Before moving to London, I worked as a research clinician at the Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute, focusing on vaccine trials. I’m enjoying this time away from clinical medicine to reconnect with tutoring, something I’ve always loved. I find real joy in helping students understand tricky concepts and gain confidence in their abilities. I'm professional, reliable, and approachable, and I strive to create a calm, encouraging environment where students feel supported and motivated to learn. Outside of academics, I play the piano, enjoy reading fiction, and have proudly represented South Africa in ultimate frisbee.
Throughout medical school (2015–2020), I tutored both primary and high school students in Maths and Biology. I worked closely with learners of varying abilities, tailoring my teaching approach to suit their individual needs. Many of my students saw significant improvement, with several crediting our sessions for raising their marks by 20–40%. This experience not only strengthened my communication and teaching skills but also deepened my passion for helping young learners grow in confidence and achieve their academic goals.
My teaching approach is calm, adaptable, and student-centred. Medical school taught me the importance of using different learning strategies depending on the material and the learner. I help students build strong foundations by combining techniques for memorisation (like mnemonics and repetition), conceptual understanding (using clear explanations and visual aids), and critical thinking (by encouraging connections between topics). I believe that everyone learns differently, and I aim to find the methods that work best for each student, making lessons both effective and engaging.
