I am a fully qualified teacher with 17 years teaching experience. I am a dedicated teacher who enjoys teaching and learning. I solemnly believe that teachers should assist students to develop their intellect so that they are able to think and reflect independently (as of 2017 the exam boards and government are pushing for this too).
On a personal note I enjoy reading a wide variety of topics and devote my self to voluntary work. My outdoor pursuits and hobbies include running, climbing, camping, computer games, orienteering, football, paint-balling, and adventurous holidays with friends and family.
I have taught students from Year 7 right up to A-levels (Year 13). I have taught GCSE and A-level students in Maths and Computer Science. I have experience in tutoring students for at least 12 years.
My tutees have found me to be outstanding at explaining difficult topics in a clear and effective manner. I recently helped a university student who was training to be a teacher of Mathematics. I can provide references as proof of my competence!
I am a trained examiner for STA (Y6), GCSE Mathematics and A level Maths; my experience has aided me to develop a thorough understanding of the techniques that students need to succeed in their exams.
My approach is to assess the strengths and weaknesses of my tutees so that I can build on their strengths and rectify any misconceptions. I then work on remedying students' weaknesses by leading them through the topics. I use questioning techniques to develop deeper knowledge. This method of teaching used to be called cognitive acceleration as it develops students' higher order thinking skills in the subject being taught.
I have a significant bank of resources at my disposal and thus I can teach using a variety of different techniques so that tutees can understand the topic rather than just rote learning!
