As a qualified teacher, I have a rich practical understanding of teaching and learning strategies underpinned by a strong academic grounding, as well as detailed knowledge of the curriculum and progression through it from primary to further education level. Within my subjects, science (GCSE/iGCSE, 13+, KS3, KS2), English, EAL (elementary – advanced, primary - adult) and maths (up to 13+), I have a keen awareness of the areas learners often find difficult and am adept at implementing techniques and training students in strategies to overcome any struggles.
I am experienced in helping students bridge gaps between different national schemes, working with students from France and the USA who need help settling into the British system, with British-educated students who are studying in the American School or preparing to sit SATs for stateside college entry, and for students with EAL, UCAS personal statements and IELTS tests.

My way of working is to form a positive rapport with each learner to develop their confidence and self-awareness so that they can take responsibility for their progress. I work to understand and build on students’ skills and interests and to identify the aspects they can improve. I aim to give students the skills to become independent learners and creative, flexible thinkers.
I have had a lot of experience and success working with children and young people who have dyslexia.
I'm inspired by the poetry and fun to be found in science, literature, maths, everywhere. Sometimes I manage to pass on my excitement.
