I have over twenty years of experience as a teacher of English language and literature at Key Stage 3, GCSE and A-Level. I am passionate about the subject and was head of English language A-Level in a school for several years. I have also worked as a teacher trainer, mentoring and supporting people on their teacher-training journey. I have been a private tutor and English examiner for over fifteen years and am passionate about helping students achieve their full potential. I am also a trained actor and use my acting experience to help students develop their communication skills, and their understanding of Shakespeare, modern drama and speech writing.
I taught in an upper school for seven years before teaching in a Sixth Form College for two years. I have also taught in primary schools. I, therefore, have experience working with a range of ages and abilities and also have extensive experience as an examiner and content creator for exam boards.
I believe the study of English can help students in all of their subjects. English is about communication and being able to connect with others through writing, speaking, and learning about texts through the ages. I love tutoring and especially enjoy helping students reach their potential. I intend to motivate and inspire students, so the sessions are tailored towards the student's specific needs. I also ensure that homework is thrown in for good measure! I have been teaching on a one-to-one basis online for the last four years and have found it to be a rewarding and fun experience. There are very few differences between face-to-face and online tutoring and the basic teaching principles are the same. I am able to give immediate feedback and help the students with any questions they have.
Please note, I am currently teaching online only.
