I am British Caribbean, with over 5 years experience of working within the primary and FE sector. I am a confident, hardworking, responsible, trustworthy and passionate individual, who always ensures that my CPD trainings are up to date, so I can continue to meet the different learning styles and multiple intelligence of each individual student.
As a teaching assistant (2014-2018) in both primary and FE, I worked in small groups or 1:1 with pupils with SEND who required a broad range of education support. Mentored EAL pupils to gain the language proficiencies needed to progress in an English speaking classroom. In addition to the above, I also provide Speech Therapy to pupils who needed to strengthen speech and memory delivery and Occupational Therapy to those who needed to develop and strengthen various motor skills to match their ages. I since been working as a qualified 19+ ESOL Lecturer( 2019-present day). I teach the English language structure ( grammar, pronunciation, word stress/intonations, forms of tenses etc, so that they can gain the levels of proficiency and skills needed for speaking, listening, reading and writing at college, work and home life.
With such a wide range of experience, I understand that students from specific countries will find it difficult to pronounce some letter sounds; and that past tenses would be difficult to apply because that sound or word does not exist in their home language, thus making it cognitively difficult to apply to the English language. This is why when i teach, I use the PPP style to meet my teaching, learning and assessment outcomes. PRE-TEACH teaches students the new vocabulary. PRACTICE- gives student the chance to apply it in grammar tasks and in the PRODUCTION stage allows student to demonstrate the new word in role plays, to further consolidate the new word. I use various methodological approach that meet the teaching, learning and assessment of each lesson o deliver that meet and stretch individual students targets.
