I am a 25 year old Cambridge Graduate with a Philosophy Degree. I love working with young people and helping them improve and grow. I have experience teaching English, Mathematics and Coaching for University and 11+ Applications.
I can offer both Individual and Group Tutoring Sessions, and come up with a personalised plan for each student. I have worked with children of all ages and adults as well, including those with special needs.
Having been to Oxbridge myself I am well familiarised with the application process and have helped others get interviews and offers - I am eager to extend this knowledge to anyone who may need it.
I have experience teaching at both a professional and personal level. I was a helper at Kumon in the months during my holidays and following my graduation from university. This involved teaching students, largely between the ages of 9 and 14, and also setting and marking their work. I found this a highly rewarding process.
Another way I gained teaching experience was as a workshops officer for my university comedy society (Cambridge Footlights). This involved organising beginner’s theatre and comedy classes for people potentially interested in trying it out. A large part of the processwas giving people confidence to express themselves comfortably, as well as rouse enthusiasm in those who were less forthcoming in the groups. This is a skill that is useful when teaching children, who frequently feel self-conscious or bored when learning.
I have also coached my younger brother, who has academic learning difficulties, through university applications and his GCSEs/A Levels. I helped him pass his GCSE Science, Maths and English classes, and also advised him on his Personal Statement and UCAS Applications. He eventually got into KCL.
I believe that each student must be approached as an individual, with their own specific requirements and needs. I begin my lesson programs with a basic structure which I modify throughout to suit the clients needs. This will involve practise questions, worksheets, presentations on subjects and conversations about said topics to clarify and enhance the understanding of the child. I also incorporate a variety of educational games for younger students.
I am a strong advocate for empathetic, thoughtful teaching which aims to get the best out of the student instead of imposing a teacher's specific ideas about how someone should be taught.
