I am an English language and literature specialist with over eight years’ tutoring experience. The vast majority of my students gain entrance to their first choice of school or university, often making dramatic improvements to their scores of several grade boundaries.
I am highly familiar with the many formats of English exam at 11+, GCSE and A level, and also help students with university entrance preparation. Having rigorously studied the full history of English literature at Oxford university, I am well qualified to help students explore the richness this subject has to offer.
Students find me to be warm, approachable and patient. Questions, discussion and thoughtful inquiry are actively encouraged in my classroom, and I support every student in pushing themselves beyond their current level.
If you would like to discuss your situation, we can arrange a phone or video call prior to booking a lesson. I look forward to hearing from you!
Since 2016 I have taught English language and literature as a private tutor to students from around the world, helping them to achieve places at top UK schools and universities including Oxbridge, UCL, Durham, Malvern, St Paul’s, JAGS, and many more.
Prior to this I completed my bachelors degree in English language and literature at the University of Oxford (St Peter’s College), where I studied texts from across the full history of English literature, from its beginnings in Anglo-Saxon verse right up to the present day.
I also studied film criticism at Oxford, and have helped students to achieve fantastic results in their film studies A levels over the years.
During the first lesson, I make a detailed assessment of each student’s current abilities, which I use to create a learning plan that takes them to their desired goal.
In each further lesson, I break down the key skills of writing and analysis in a logical and progressive way so that they are easy to understand. By training these core skills, I help students to develop confidence in their own abilities, so that they can produce outstanding work independent of external help.
I adjust my approach with each student to accommodate their unique needs and interests, since what works for one may not work for another. Over the years I have developed an extensive range of learning materials to draw upon, and as much as possible I use real past test papers or exercises tailor-made to the student’s specific exam.
My tuition covers all of the following skills. If something isn’t covered below and you’re unsure whether my classes are right for you, please contact me to discuss.
