As well as teaching I have been a senior examiner for GSCE Chemistry for many years. I also examine at A-Level. I find a one-to-one relationship much more stimulating for both the tutor and tutee and I love seeing younger people gaining confidence and ability. I am very friendly and approachable but do expect tutees to work hard and will challenge them accordingly. Tutor sessions will be demanding and rewarding as well as fun.I am ranked as a five-star tutor by both Blue Tutors and First Tutors.

Sam: "Thanks for the brilliant help - my chemistry teachers were astonished and I owe a large chunk of that to your support,"
Denise: "I would like to thank you for your amazing help with Beth's Chemistry. We are so proud of her and she is now really looking forward to her university degree course."

Tutoring Experience

I have over twenty years of teaching experience in chemistry and general science from KS3 up to A-level and Oxbridge entry. I have taught in both the state and independent sectors in both mixed and single sex schools, of both sexes, and in both day and boarding schools. For the past five years I have undertake private tuition rather than teaching in schools and specialize in chemistry A-Level, although I also offer Science at IGSCE and GCSE.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that in a one-to-one personal relationship there is a much greater opportunity to help a tutee to think and understand, with less emphasis on rote learning (although naturally some facts do need to be learned). This helps the tutee to develop the skills of independent learning whilst also having the confidence of knowing that help and encouragement are readily to hand. It means greater confidence at examinations as questions will be more readily understood and the candidate more able to draft suitable answers tailored for maximum marks. Without this ability candidates have to rely on rote learned responses that do not necessarily address the questions. It also instils skills that will be useful throughout life.
