Hi! My name is Riya and I’m currently a fourth year Medical Student at University of Nottingham. I have a strong academic background, having achieved all 9’s in my GCSEs and have 3 A*’s in Maths, Chemistry and Biology (all of which are AQA) and 3090 in UCAT. I strive to pass on my skills and knowledge to all my students as much as possible so that they can excel in their studies. Helping students realise their full potential and gain confidence in their studies as well as themselves is what inspires me to pursue tutoring even further.
I have been tutoring and mentoring for over two years, starting after my A-Levels. Previously, I have taught many of my peers and carried out private tuition, mainly in Mathematics, which is my strongest point. I have enjoyed teaching a range of ages from Primary school up to secondary and A-Level students as well as prospective Medical and Dental students for UCAT. I have had many parents reach out to me to help their children excel in school after seeing improvement in my tutees’ school performance. As a student myself, I have tried many ways to learn and teaching myself content throughout the years. I hope with the range of techniques I have acquired, I can offer bespoke lessons for the students’ needs.
My Teaching Style:
1. Initial Assessment: Before our lessons, I would confirm the exam board, age, year and what level you are currently working at and what level you hope to achieve. By doing this, I can ensure I offer the appropriate help and whether I’m familiar with the specification.
Strengths and Weaknesses: Once all is set and ready, I will encourage my students to pinpoint their strengths and weaknesses. I understand not everyone will be aware of this and so I would go through the core principles required such as Algebra, Ratios, Fractions etc to see what level the student is working at.
Theory: During each lesson, the importance of theory but also practice will be highlighted. I will offer teaching and examples for us to work through.
Follow-up: Depending on the student’s requirement, I may provide some practice questions for us to check on the first 5 minutes of the following lesson.
Progress Checks: I will ensure the student is aware of their progress, helping them stay motivated and focused on their goals.
This is by no means a set structure, but an idea of what my lessons can entail. I will personalise my lessons for the students abilities and learning methods. It is my passion to encourage students to not only learn but be confident in what they learnt and I’m passionate to help achieve their best grades. Please do not hesitate to drop a message, ideally with what subject and exam board you are interested in.
