I am a fully qualified Mathematics teacher with over 12 years of classroom experience, working with students aged 8 to 16. As the current Head of Mathematics at Purbrook Park School, I bring a comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of the national curriculum, including all major examination boards: AQA, Edexcel, OCR, and iGCSE. My role keeps me closely connected to the evolving demands of the subject, ensuring my teaching is aligned with current academic expectations and best practices.
For the past decade, I have also worked as a dedicated private tutor, supporting both school-aged students and adult learners in preparation for a wide range of assessments—from entrance exams and SATs to GCSEs and functional skills. Whether you are aiming to secure a Grade 4 or striving for a Grade 9, I tailor my approach to help every student achieve and often exceed their target grade.
My tutoring sessions can be fully adapted to complement the content currently being taught in school, or we can focus on reinforcing specific topics where confidence may be lacking. My extensive classroom experience has equipped me with a broad repertoire of teaching strategies and techniques, allowing me to deliver engaging, personalised lessons that cater to different learning styles and needs.
A major emphasis of the reformed GCSE Mathematics specification is on problem-solving. Students are now required not only to understand mathematical concepts but also to apply them in unfamiliar and often complex contexts. I specialise in helping students develop the critical thinking and analytical skills necessary to approach multi-step, worded problems with confidence. I provide clear frameworks, practical guidance, and plenty of practice opportunities to build competence and reduce exam anxiety.
