Thank you for viewing my profile. I am Head of Maths at a large secondary school in East London and have been tutoring successfully up to and including A Level Further Maths for nearly 10 years.
I am also a senior examiner for A Level Maths, A Level Further Maths, GCSE Maths and GCSE Statistics (Edexcel/AQA).
My particular expertise lies with exam groups and the majority of my teaching and tutoring is focussed on Year 10, 11, 12 and 13. I can tutor both Foundation and Higher GCSE for all exam boards, as well as A Level Maths and Further Maths.
I have an extremely successful track record with private tutoring - whilst it would be untrue (and unrealistic!) to say everyone I have ever tutored has received a Grade 9/A*, it is true that I have never had a student be disappointed with their final grade, and have received numerous references and accolades from happy parents and students to testify to that fact. Not all students are the same, and for some making the jump from a Grade 3 to a Grade 4 is just as much of an achievement as obtaining 'straight 9s' - and my tutoring approach is incredibly mindful of that fact.
I have a maths background at degree level, and a PGCE with a mathematics specialism from UCL's Institute of Education.
As someone who actually teaches in schools, I know the best approaches to teaching the 9-1 specification (for GCSE) and linear structure (for A Level). I can draw on a broad range of resources including exam questions from all of the exam boards and many more questions in the 9-1 (GCSE) and linear (A Level) style. I also have access to otherwise 'locked' resources and updates from the exam boards including detailed mark schemes (beyond those published publicly).
Finally, as a current teacher I am of course fully DBS checked and registered on the DBS update service.
I can offer a heavily scaffolded approach for pupils who have experienced past difficulties in the subject; additionally, I can offer a rigorous approach for high-achieving pupils aiming for the top grades. I tend to tutor in a student-led style, which works for many. However, on occasion a student may require a more structured approach which I can devise in advance to complement school-based learning. As I specialise in exam groups, my tutoring tends to be focussed on exam preparation and applying school-based learning to 'what this looks like in an exam'.
