I am an adaptable, enthusiastic and friendly language tutor. I bring a wealth of experience from teaching in the vibrant east end of London to one-to-one and small group mentoring.
I also teach yoga, meditation and mindfulness. Mindfulness skills are proving very helpful for the young people I tutor, especially as anxiety levels have increased since the pandemic.
I have a First Class Honours Degree in French and a Post Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) in French and English. I have also studied German, Italian and Spanish as well as linguistics. I believe language learning is about more than books and study. It's about travel, meeting inspiring people, enjoying delicious food and embarking on journeys of self discovery.
I have fifteen years of classroom experience as a teacher of French and English. I began my teaching career in New Zealand and worked as a long term supply in different areas of London, before settling in East London where I taught happily for 11 years.
I have taught a combination of French (KS3 to KS5) and English (KS3 and KS4) throughout my career. More recently I have worked as a mentor for Year 11 students preparing for GCSE English (AQA). I am also TEFL trained.
I have seen first hand how a personal tutor can build confidence in a student and turn them around. I have helped students develop their writing style for English language and literature exams in both London, UK and Tauranga, NZ. Students have also gained confidence and an awareness of how to respond when speaking French for the oral examination, which can always feel stressful in the moment.
I would really enjoy being able to help my students not only succeed in their exams but also improve their communication skills and develop a love of language learning.
As all students learn and work differently, I tailor sessions to meet the needs of my students. My creative, positive, fun approach can improve students' grades, bring exam success, confidence and enjoyment.
I also teach exam technique for AQA to ensure that students' hard work is reflected in their excellent results.
I am currently offering tutoring sessions in person or online via Zoom.
