I am a highly experienced English teacher with a warm friendly approach and a wide range of useful strategies at my disposal. I enjoy watching students make excellent progress. I have a strong academic background attending Manchester University and achieving a BA hons 2:1 Drama before completing an MA and PGCE in English and Drama. Whether your child wants to boost their grade to the highest or they need help with getting over the line with a pass, I am adaptable, flexible and most importantly, I have an in depth understanding of how children learn.

Tutoring Experience

Fifteen years as an English teacher in a secondary school has given me a wealth of experience for tutoring. I have taught GCSE and A Level and posses a strong subject knowledge and an understanding of the exam requirements of the English Language and Literature papers (both one and two) including weightings of assessment objectives. I have also worked as an examiner for AQA, marking GCSEs and am aware how the papers are marked, so I can really give an insight into what is needed to achieve each grade. My teaching experience has given me a unique view of how different children learn, and I am experienced in diagnosing what the child needs to achieve their full potential.

Tutoring Approach

I have been described as warm, friendly and professional in my approach as a teacher. With me, the lesson is tailored to the student. I use my experience of many years to diagnose what the student needs to focus on in order to make excellent progress. I aim to help students take ownership of their learning, I can help them develop their confidence by introducing methods to help with anything they might be struggling with. I will look for the best strategy for the child and encourage an enjoyment and love of English . I can make learning accessible and fun, creating games and interactive tasks to create an enjoyable learning experience.
