Hi,
Inspiring confidence and raising standards in Mathematics is my passion! As a highly skilled Secondary school teacher with over fourteen years teaching experience, I strongly believe all children can succeed in Mathematics given the right encouragement and support. A 'can-do' attitude with a growth mindset towards their learning is often the key.
Having qualified in 1995, I took a career break after one academic year in order to raise my three children all of whom have sat Common Entrance or Scholarship exams.
Encouraging and patient, I have a range of excellent resources and teaching strategies to engage all students. However, in my experience as a classroom teacher I found it much more rewarding teaching students on a one-to-one basis and providing individualised support. My main focus is to develop a solid grounding on basic Mathematical skills and then to work on exam technique and ensure students know how to answer exam questions in order to maximise marks.
I am currently Deputy Head of Mathematics and Head of KS3 at a local Independent school which specialises in Special Educational Needs; I have also mentored Trainee teachers. I am at Notre Dame Senior school one day a week in the Learning Support department where I work with students who find Mathematics particularly challenging.
My personality, enthusiasm and ability to scaffold challenging concepts, makes learning Mathematics fun for even the most reluctant learners. All of my students have been inspired and developed a genuine love for a subject they once feared - rapid progress has been their main motivation.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any queries.
Many thanks.
Mindy
With over fourteen years teaching experience including eleven years as a one-to-one Mathematics Tutor, I have gained invaluable experience of teaching across the curriculum and to all abilities within Key Stages 3 and 4. I am fluent with the GCSE 9-1 grading system and the challenges it presents.
I have an excellent rapport with students, am quick to identify areas of weakness and able to explain complex Mathematical concepts in an easily understandable manner. All of my students have exceeded their target grades and have developed into confident, well-rounded, independent thinkers.
I have extensive experience of tutoring for Pretests, 11 plus, Common Entrance, Scholarship exams and GCSE 3-4 borders. All students I have tutored have gained entry into their first choice schools including Tiffin Girls School, Harrow, Kingston Grammar, Reeds, RGS, Claremont and St. Georges.
I have recently tutored students at Wellington College who gained a Grade 8 in their IGCSE Mathematics having achieved a Grade 4/5 in their mock exams - an outstanding achievement in just four months! My students at St. John's were able to go from a Grade 4 to a Grade 7 within four months also. Don't take my word for it - please feel free to read my testimonials and I look forward to working with your children.
I assess my students strengths and weaknesses in the first instance to ensure that their basic numeracy skills are secure.
Only then can I fully support them at a pace which suits them tailoring sessions to meet their unique needs. I employ a variety of teaching and learning strategies ensuring rapid progress and success.
