I am a qualified mathematics teacher, with a friendly, focussed and innovative approach. I am particularly skilled with students who lack confidence and struggle with traditional teaching methods, both teenage and adults, and am employed in two roles- as a permanent teacher at an outstanding secondary, and as a teacher of adults in local face to face provision.
I have spent six years working at an outstanding comprehensive, and five years working in further education, teaching mathematics both alongside vocational courses (so I am experienced with reluctant learners!) and for GCSE Mathematics, both at foundation and higher level. I also have extensive experience teaching adults in my additional role as a Tutor, for the Open University and on Access to Higher Education courses.
I am very comfortable teaching people who feel that they dislike or cannot understand mathematics. I understand that many individuals need to use a hands on approach, and I will use a variety of methods and mediums. I specialise in kinaesthetic (learning through physical manipulation) and will provide these learning aides as part of the lesson. I promote confidence by working from what students know and understand, and will be especially assessing and supporting student to develop a really secure understanding of the basics. This will help all learners, whatever their current ability.
