Hi, I am a qualified, enthusiastic English and TESOL teacher (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) with over 10 years of experience.
I have taught English and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) to international students from South Africa to Brazil via Zoom as well as UK based students and asylum seekers on an individual basis and also in groups.
I am passionate about inspiring students and seeing them progress. Creativity, motivation and encouragement are my strengths and are essential for productive learning.
I have a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) and a British Council accredited Certificate in TESOL with Trinity College London (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
I have taught adults from China, Brazil, Syria, Yemen, Turkey, South Africa, Togo, Netherlands, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Eritrea as well as the UK. All students who took exams improved their grades gaining qualifications in Functional Skills English with City & Guilds or a place at university.
I also provide coaching for IELTS exams (International English Language Testing System).
My work with parents in schools as a Family Learning Tutor involved helping them teach their children English which was very stimulating. More recently I have worked as a Teaching Assistant and taught and supported children with learning needs in primary schools.
During lockdown, I developed teaching online which I really enjoy. It also enables easy access for students, saving travel expenses and time.
Listening to students and building a rapport is essential to assess their learning needs and establish their skill level. I tailor each session to suit the student’s needs whether that is teaching grammar, reading, writing, pronunciation, listening skills, conversation practice, or understanding British culture!
I use a range of materials to cater for different learning styles such as visual, auditory and kinaesthetic. Inspiring sessions and fun are important for a good learning and teaching experience so I use quizzes, games, videos, exercises and lots of conversation practice to develop the aspects of speaking, listening, reading and writing.
My previous students have said:
‘Rachel is a very good teacher and thorough in her teaching skills… always encouraging students to have courage’
‘Rachel often provides me with a lot of very useful audios and videos, which can help me to practice note-taking and improve my listening skills. It is a good way to learn English’
