My background is in languages, and I believe that competent linguistic and mathematical skills are essential for moving through life. I very much enjoy teaching, especially Maths, English and French, and encourage my students to read and talk as much as possible. It is through hearing ourselves speak and explain something that true understanding of a subject can come about.
After training as a teacher, I worked in primary schools as a class teacher and then as a tutor. I enjoy helping children with specific needs (i.e. autism, dyslexia), those who want help with entrance exams (i.e. 11 plus, Common Entrance, secondary school tests) and those who simply need extra help, be they gifted and talented, or in need of a boost to their self esteem.
I like to make sure that the basics are understood, and break things down into clear, manageable segments before moving on to more advanced work. It helps if I can understand a child's motivation and interests, and if possible incorporate this knowledge into their learning.
