I am a GCSE examiner for Physics. I have a degree in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering and spent several years in industry before becoming a teacher. I started teaching at an all boys comprehensive in Outer London before moving to Cambridgeshire where I was Head of Science at a school in Cambridge. Although I have retired I missed the teaching and contact with young people.
I taught Physics for over 30 years, both in the independent and state sector. I was actively involved in introducing both the new A level and GCSE syllabuses. I took particular responsibility for the replacement practical work which features in the new exams. I recently returned to teaching to cover a temporary vacant Physics post, so was able to better understand the impact of Covid
I have also been helping out at local schools who have no Physics specialist by teaching some of the more difficult GCSE topics, running CPD sessions, as well as doing some intervention work with small groups.
Having struggled with some subjects myself at school, I understand the 'i dont get it'. With Physics there is often a lack of confidence so I aim to build that up first. I am very experienced in knowing what the examiner is looking for.
