Maths and Physics Teacher in Marlow

I graduated from Imperial College, London with a Upper Second Class Honours degree in Physics in 2007. I also hold A levels at A grade in Mathematics and Geography and AS Levels in Further Maths and French. I have been working as a Physics teacher since 2013 and more recently as a highly successful Head of Department and Faculty in a range of schools including independent, comprehensive and grammar schools in Kent, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.

Tutoring Experience

I trained as a teacher in 2012 through Oxford University and worked in both grammar and comprehensive schools. I am now employed as the Head of Physics at a well known independent school and have taught all years from 7 to 13 in Science and Physics. I have also tutored students in Maths with particular specialism in Mechanics and Pure (Core) Maths at A-Level.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that tutoring should be very student lead. In order to maximise the useful time spent in tutoring, I would want to see that students know what it is they are particularly wanting to learn whether that be some revision on the overall subject or a more specific part of the syllabus that they do not understand. I also believe that the best way to learn is through question practise using a relatively short introduction to each subject and then as many questions as can be fitted into the time.

In understanding a new topic in most subjects, it is important that the underlying principles of the subject that may initially seem quite complex can be related to a real world example. Science and Maths are subjects that are not dry and boring, they explain in fantastic detail why everything in the world happens in the way it does. I want my students to enjoy the subject as in this way they will find that learning is fun and the entire subject will become easier to understand because of this.
