Paul

I am an experienced private tutor, teacher and academic historian.

Whether your child is striving to achieve their target grade in order to get into college or university, is currently struggling and in need of support or simply has a passion for history - I have a wealth of experience catering for all needs.

I offer a free telephone consultancy to assess how I can help.

About me:

Having completed my PhD in History (2016), I became a published historian who has authored two books (English Uprising: Brexit and the Mainstreaming of the Far Right - nominated Guardian Book of the Day; Lost Imperium: Far Right Visions of the British Empire, c.1920-1980), peer-reviewed journal articles, book reviews and acted as a historical consultant.

In addition to being a Private Tutor, I have been a Teacher of History at Notting Hill and Ealing High School - a leading independent day school in London and part of the Girls Day School Trust. Previously, I was subject leader and Teacher of History at Chelsea Independent College. I have also been a university lecturer at Richmond University. I now work in Government, but my love for teaching history has stayed with me!

I am passionate about history and love helping students achieve their potential both through knowledge acquisition and exam strategy. I enjoy working with young people and always seek to motivate my students to be enthusiastic about history and achieve the best possible results.

Tutoring Experience

In all my teaching and tutoring roles I have experience teaching both high-achieving and mixed-ability classes a range of subjects from Key Stage 3 to A Level, including:

-The Cold War
-Britain, c.1000-1997
-Russia, 1855-1964
-Germany, 1918-1989
-United States, Slavery and the Civil War & 1918-1989
-Europe, 1789-2004

I am experienced teaching units for GCSE including:

-British and European history, medieval and modern
-United States history
-Medicine, Crime, Migration, War and Society (both OCR and Edexcel)
-International Relations (Cambridge and Edexcel iGCSE, OCR and Edexcel)

If you are looking to independently study for GCSEs, A Levels, a degree or just wish to gain more knowledge I can also cater for this.

Tutoring Approach

The first session is the most important, as this is when I will assess your needs and goals, enabling me to create a learning strategy which will ensure you achieve them.

Previously when tutoring, I have assisted students with:

-Knowledge retention
-Essay writing
-Exam technique
-Revision
-Helping students catch up who have arrived late/changed subjects
-Confidence building
-Independent exam preparation/home schooling

I cater for ALL abilities.
