NB: I am currently taking one more student for support throughout this academic year. My availability is limited so please contact sooner to ensure a place!
I am an experienced, high-standard tutor with a Biomechanical Engineering Ph.D. from Imperial College. I have published my research in renowned journals and presented my work at international conferences such as the World Congress of Biomechanics. I hold a 1st class MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering and was awarded the Bob Hall prize for Innovation and the Higher Achieving Student award by Nottingham University.
I offer emergency exam preparation and long-term support in Maths and the Sciences in the Walthamstow and South Kensington areas.
During my academic career, I have taught undergraduate and postgraduate students in both a classroom and individually and received commendation for my teaching. I have run exam support classes in London schools and, beyond that, I have been a private tutor for over 10 years. I have guided my students to success and achieving their best grades at the GSCE, A-Level, and University levels through both online and in-person classes. Below are testimonials I have received from tuition through other, prestigious agencies.
"This tutor is conscientious, kind and considerate to client and pupil. The lessons are planned well. Excellent person for tutoring. Does all Sciences and maths." Katrin
"Jack got his best grades in science and maths. I think your support clearly helped with his science and maths and would love to continue." Fiona
"Lobby provided excellent support and tuition for my son, Alex, in preparation for his Double Science GCSE. From the outset Lobby provided clear guidance and definitely motivated Alex to engage and enjoy his studies. Lobby helped Alex tackle difficult topics across the three sciences. He was an inspiring and kind teacher. We valued his dedication and proactive approach to teaching, including working through exam papers and providing additional feedback on class work. My son achieved a 9/8 grade and we are in no doubt that Lobby’s contribution played a key part in his success. We are extremely grateful to Lobby personally and wish him every success in his career.
"We would highly recommend Lobby and would be happy to speak personally to anyone who would like a reference in the future." Anna
"I got a 7 in biology, 8 in chemistry and 9 physics. Thank you so much for all the help over the last couple of years, when you first started tutoring me I was getting 2s in physics and 4s in chemistry, so I never would've imagined I'd be getting 8s and 9s in them. Thank you" James
"Lobby tutored our daughter Zoë from March 2021 to June 2022 in GCSE maths and the 3 sciences. She had lost her confidence in these subjects, reflected in her school exams in February 2021.
She really enjoyed her weekly sessions with Lobby, all done remotely. Over the sessions, Lobby managed to build back Zoe's confidence to be able to tackle specific topics and answer trickier questions.
He was encouraging, firm, clear, and motivating. Zoë got her results today and got 8s in those 4 subjects, which she is delighted with. No doubt lobby contributed to helping her achieve her potential." - Chris
"Ben is now the proud owner of a Maths A-Level we are absolutely delighted for him - THANK YOU for all yr work/support with Ben - he got his university place. We are so grateful to you!" - Anna
Understanding is crucial to success, especially in academia. I try to ensure that the basic and key concepts are understood instead of teaching a process. Through this, a student is able to adapt the knowledge and handle any problem they may encounter. This is especially true in the subjects of Maths and Physics, where the basic concepts never change and they are the building blocks for more complex problems. Combining this with guidance in exam technique helps ensure the student achieves the best marks.
I endeavour to understand how people learn and tailor my lessons to match so that the student digests the topic as efficiently as possible. Relativity is a crucial part of understanding, and I work to ensure that my lessons are framed in terms familiar to the student. This also aids recollection and communication of information, both integral to exam success.
Lastly, I strive to make lessons fun! I firmly believe that learning shouldn't be painful, and we do our best when we are enjoying ourselves. A fun environment facilitates confidence in students, enabling them to attempt problems without fear of failure. It helps hold attention and encourage engagement, ensuring students get the most out of each lesson. Finally, it promotes creativity and problem solving, skills that are imperative to success within and without academia.
