I graduated in 2018 with a high 2.i in Physical Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge. I am an experienced Science and Maths tutor up to degree level, I have experience teaching children with Speech Language and Communication needs, and I tutor for Oxbridge Personal Statements and entrance exams. I therefore have a vast amount of experience teaching children of all ages and abilities, and in a wide range of subjects (Maths, Science, Music). I find teaching and educating incredibly rewarding, and believe every student has the potential to achieve.
I had the privilege of being a member of the National Youth Orchestra for two years, with my second year being spent as the co-principal second violinist. During my time with the NYO I played in two BBC Proms performances, and worked with world-renowned conductors such as Sir Mark Elder, John Wilson, Ed Gardner, Ilan Volkov, Paul Daniels, and Francois Xavier-Roth. The repertoire ranged from immense symphonic works such as Mahler’s 5th and 9th Symphonies, to groundbreaking new works by Unsuk Chin and Anna Meredith.
I have been tutoring for Science and Maths since my second year of A-levels. My most recent GCSE Maths student managed to increase his grade from a level 5 to a level 8/9 in the period he was working with me.
I spent 6 months in a North London Secondary School and Sixth Form, where I worked in the SEN department as a Science and Maths specialist. This has given me a great deal of experience in teaching children with ADHD, Autism, and Dyslexia. I also ran the Science and Maths clubs at the school, where I took learning beyond the curriculum.
I also have experience working with children and young adults who are suffering from anxiety. One of my students was not able to go to school because of his anxiety, and so I was responsible for the teaching of most of the curriculum to him.
For three years I have been working as an Oxbridge Interview Preparation and Personal Statement Advisor at my old Sixth Form College, BHASVIC. In this time I have built up a wealth of experience of the Oxbridge Application Process, including the newly introduced admissions tests for Natural Sciences (NSAA). In this time BHASVIC has maintained its status as having the highest Oxbridge application success rate of all state schools in the country.
Having taught 20+ pupils over 4 years, I am an experienced Piano and Violin teacher, specialising in beginner-intermediate level.
“My daughter often felt daunted by new or tricky pieces but Ollie’s kind and patient approach really helped her to grow in confidence. She got a distinction in her Grade 1 exam so it definitely worked!” – Lucy Foy, mother of Esme, Piano Pupil.
I have found that my pupils achieve their best when they feel comfortable expressing themselves and asking questions about the subject. I see teaching as a two-way process and pride myself on ensuring my pupils are empowered to do this.
