I am a recent Masters Graduate from Edinburgh in Computationally Applied Mathematics, having done my undergrad at Durham in Physics. I thoroughly enjoy the subjects I teach and appreciate how they can be applied to the world around us.
I have been tutoring for 5 years, both online and in person. I love bringing examples of simple cases where the nuances of straightforward Physics and Maths can easily be seen in our day to day lives. Whether this is driving a car around a corner, skiing, orbits of planets or countless other things that we take for granted, being able to explain these in terms of Physical models is particularly rewarding to me.
My teaching style is entirely dependent on the student, and I have am happy to try different methods depending on the way a student learns. For particularly abstract mathematical concepts, I often find visual aids such as desmos graphing calculator can be useful tools to help picture how these constructs work.
Since I was taking these exams not too long ago, I am very familiar with the specific ways in which examiners will phrase questions and how they will mark the papers; so after encouraging genuine interest for the subjects, I am always careful to point out to students that (unfortunately) this is the way they will be marked, and these are the things they should look out for.
