As an experienced examiner for 2 major exam boards, along with a wealth of experience of teaching geography, I have an excellent understanding of what's expected of students. I specialise in tutoring students AQA, WJEC/Eduqas and Edexcel Geography.
I have marked GCSE and A level exams for 10 years and I have been a A level team leader for the last 3 years. I have also been a team leader for GCSE Geography.
I graduated from the University of Durham with a 2.1 in Geography. I enjoy the interdisciplinary nature of Geography, having studied modules such as Hazard and Risk whilst still specialising in Human Geography in my last two years. I completed my PGCE in Secondary Geography at the University of Leicester. I recently achieved a Masters with distinction in International Development at the University of Sheffield.
I have been tutoring for 8 years and I relish the one to one approach to ensure I can thoroughly monitor a student's progress either face to face or online and tailor my practice to that individual. One year, one of my tutees requested tutoring after getting an E in AS Geography but managed to get an A in their second year.
In my spare time, I enjoy acting, swimming and yoga.
Having taught geography in both a secondary school and a further education college, I have a very good understanding of the strategies that work for a variety of students. Throughout this time, I have taught both GCSE and A Level Geography and A Level World Development.
Marking a range of AS/A2 papers, focusing on topics such as fieldwork skills, has given me an excellent understanding of what is expected of students. Additionally, I am a team leader for an A2 exam after being strongly recommended by my team leader for my accurate assessments of students' exams and detailed feedback. As a team leader, I have moderated other examiners' marking and seen a range of answers.
I offer an individualized and personable approach, supported by a range of teaching resources. From my experiences of teaching, I can adapt to meet the learner's needs to make sure the learner makes rapid progress. I just specialise in geography, which I think is to the benefit of my students.
As an examiner, I know how to decode exam questions and command words. I provide learners with simple methods to ensure they maximise the limited time given.
The exam period is a stressful time and I ensure students become confident and relaxed by providing encouraging and stimulating lessons.
I have a cancellation policy that any lesson missed or cancelled inside 24hrs is charged. I realise there maybe occasional circumstances when a lesson is missed or cancelled for unavoidable reasons and I will apply common sense.
