I am a qualified secondary school English teacher, currently employed at an outstanding school in London (OFSTED 2025), where I also hold roles as staff governor and KS3 progress lead.
I enjoy working one-to-one with students to help increase their confidence and skill in understanding and analysing English literature and language.
Teaching is my second career, having previously held leadership roles in live entertainment at companies including ATG Entertainment and Cirque du Soleil.
I trained with Harris Federation, completing my PGCE in school working across two south London academies. At my current school I teach all year groups from 7-11 so am familiar with key stage three and GCSE teaching. We teach the AQA specification at GCSE and I currently teach texts including An Inspector Calls, Macbeth, A Christmas Carol and the 'Worlds and Lives' poetry anthology. (I have also taught the 'Love and Relationships' anthology). With my background in theatre, I am conversant with and able to tutor other Shakespeare texts and modern plays.
In addition to tutoring English Language and Literature to GCSE I am also open to tutoring for Drama up to GCSE, either in written or performance context. I do not tutor A-Level students currently.
** I am available to tutor both online and locally in Blackheath, Greenwich and Lewisham. **
I have broad experience at school teaching English Language, English Literature, KS3 Drama, PSHE and Wellbeing, in addition to being a form tutor and running intervention classes for English GCSE students. I have also tutored students individually where additional support has been required.
In tutoring students I try to first understand where they're starting from, and what potential barriers might exist in their current understanding and experience of English lessons in school.
Whilst commonly we might be trying to support an improvement in attainment - their grades - I feel it's most important for students to enjoy literature and to get excited about what they're studying, so before anything else I focus on trying to instil a love and appreciation for it. Of course, we need to also ensure that we're able to meet the assessment criteria, so there is necessarily a focus on strategies for answering exam questions.
I am available to tutor online and locally in Blackheath, Greenwich and Lewisham.
