I give primacy to study.
I am a registered tutor with a variety of agencies in the London area. I also have experience of teaching at a primary school level.
Having undergone regular tutoring myself after leaving school, I believe that one-on-one teaching can pay huge dividends. Providing that a tutor is attentive to a particular pupil, tuition should act as a beneficial supplement for any child’s education. From my time as a student, I have been endowed with an unshakeable faith in the primary role of learning in an individual’s life. My own experience is that academic success derives from developing a balance in one’s broader life. I feel that my students’ extra curricular lives should serve to aid academic performance. If a child is a natural sportsman or sportswoman, he/she can incorporate organizational skills from the field or track into learning. The same principle applies to a child that is naturally gregarious: this awareness can readily be applied to, for example, the social dynamic of a GCSE set text in English Literature. Where teaching can respond to pupils as individuals, there is a wealth of raw material from which to foster an interest in an academic subject. In respect of this, tuition offers a unique opportunity to provide lessons devoted to one student. Sessions can be tailored to maximize a tutee’s learning.
My passions are various, and I hope that this stands me in good stead to adapt to the needs of a variety of pupils. Ultimately however, I believe that the root of academic excellence is involvement and dedication on behalf of the pupil. My goal is to demonstrate that academic work should not be seen as labour but as a worthy, or even enjoyable activity. I am as passionate about teaching as I am about learning, for both are interdependent in any form of education.
