I’m a first-year medical student at the University of Plymouth. Before starting medicine, I studied finance and graduated from the University of Leicester. I actually completed my A-levels about five years ago, so my journey into medicine hasn’t been the most direct—but that time gave me valuable experience, maturity, and clarity about what I really wanted to do. I’ve always been passionate about science and helping others, and now I’m fully committed to making a difference through medicine
I started teaching during my second year of studying finance at the University of Leicester. At the time, I took on a couple of students: some at KS3 level Science and others at GCSE Biology and Chemistry. I really enjoyed the process of breaking down complex topics and helping them build confidence in their learning. It taught me how to adapt my communication style to different learning needs, explain clearly under pressure, and be patient and supportive.
My approach is to make students sharp and motivated. I use active recall because it shows whether they truly understand and remember the material. I always explain my thought process when going through questions and get the student to talk me through theirs too — it helps identify how they’re thinking and where they need support. I also love using funny analogies and mnemonics to make concepts stick and to keep the sessions enjoyable. My aim is to guide their thinking, not just give them answers, so they learn how to tackle questions with confidence.
