Mishal

Maths Tuition in Harrow

Hi there! My name is Mishal Removed I have graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Leeds. Other than academics, I have a passion for playing the piano, swimming, exercising and socialising!

Tutoring Experience

From September 2023 to the present, I have tutored several dedicated students between the ages of 12 and 16, balancing this role alongside my final year of university. Initially, I began tutoring through an agency, where I accumulated over 200 hours of experience. Notably, 100% of my trial sessions converted into regular commitments, and I had no students discontinue during the academic year. In Easter 2024, I transitioned to private tutoring, adding another 100+ hours to my experience.

This summer, all four of my Year 11 students exceeded expectations in GCSE Mathematics, achieving two grades higher than their predicted outcomes. Among my three Year 10 students, two advanced from foundation to higher-level Maths, while the third was placed in a higher set after their mock exams. Additionally, a Year 9 student completed all KS3 content with near-perfect marks and is now beginning their KS4 studies ahead of schedule.

During my college years, I regularly returned to my secondary school to speak with Year 10 Art students about studying GCSE Art and Design, offering guidance on the subject and sharing personal experiences.

My earliest experience working with children dates back to September 2017 to March 2018, where I led weekly activities for children aged 5 to 7 at a Scout group. This role helped me develop creative ways to maintain engagement and enthusiasm, communicate effectively with both children and parents, and ensure the group's safety and well-being.

Tutoring Approach

The greatest advantage of 1:1 tutoring is the ability to tailor the learning experience to each student's unique needs. My priority is to challenge the conventional learning methods students are accustomed to in school, which can often be rigid, and introduce them to a more dynamic and independent approach that fosters confidence and curiosity.

Rather than replicating the passive, textbook-driven style often used in schools, I focus on blending theoretical learning with practical application. This involves working through exam-style questions, applying concepts to real-life scenarios, and engaging in creative tasks that make learning more interactive and meaningful. I also encourage students to develop their own problem-solving strategies, moving beyond rote memorisation of mark schemes to truly understand the underlying concepts.

When students struggle with a topic, I use a variety of resources, including textbooks and my own previous notes, to find alternative ways to explain the material, helping them grasp it from new perspectives. Additionally, I share valuable tips and advice from my own experience as both a student and a learner under excellent tutors in the past, offering continuous support and motivation to drive their success.

Ultimately, I strive to instil both a love for the subject and the skills to succeed, with my two primary goals being their enjoyment and achievement.
