Miriam

I'm Miriam, a freelance tutor, editor, and writer. I have a PhD in Creative Writing and have previously taught at Scottish Universities' International Summer School, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of British Columbia.

Originally from British Columbia, I came to Edinburgh in 2013 for a Master's in Creative Writing and fell in love with the city!

I have experience tutoring in English Literature, Creative Writing, and general essay writing.

I'm an editor with a small press and I write short stories and am working on a novel. I love reading, watching films, exploring nature, looking after houseplants, and cats.

Tutoring Experience

I was a private tutor throughout my undergraduate degree, primarily working with international students as a study support/conversation partner. I have previously worked as a Classroom Support on an English for Academic Purposes course run by the University of Edinburgh. I have three years of undergraduate teaching experience, specialising in Creative Writing and Scottish Literature. While teaching at the University of Edinburgh, I also gained an Associate Fellowship from Advance HE. I was a Creative Writing tutor for the Scottish Universities' International Summer School.

I work with students to create an individual learning experience – I want each student to feel like they're getting the best out of their learning experience so they can get the best out of themselves.
