I have a 1st class honours masters degree in chemistry as well as a PGCE in secondary science with a specialism in chemistry. Tutoring sessions via Zoom or other suitable platform at convenience.
I have been a teacher for the last 5 years, teaching chemistry in both comprehensive and grammar schools from year 7 up to year 13. I had been a tutor part-time for 7 years before hand including during my time at university. I have experience across a variety of exam boards and have this last year been a marker for AQA GCSE Chemistry, which gave me a much greater insight in to the specific things students need to be doing and avoiding to maximise their success.
My approach to teaching/tutoring has always been to keep things relaxed and informal so that the student feels comfortable and safe to give questions/discussions a go and not be scared of saying something wrong, this will then lead to much greater levels of understanding as we can identify misconceptions together.
From my current role as a teacher I am up to date on teaching pedagogy and the importance of things like modelling, retrieval, spaced practice, and feedback.
I would generally begin a session quizzing on what we had done previously before then moving on to either specific queries that the tutee had from their lessons, or our planned session if that is how we had decided to organise our work. Sessions would involve exam questions to ensure any knowledge could be applied in the format that will be expected when we get to examinations.
