I am a mechanical engineering university student in my third year. I am currently undergoing a 5 year master integrated course at Swansea University. I love science, fashion, reading and swimming.
I have a years online tutoring experience- I worked independently for 6 months and was later employed by MyTutor to work with schools as a tutor for pupils who required extra help. This year I was an Intern tutor at Herne Bay High school for a term, where I worked with students outside of lesson to fill gaps in their knowledge due to the covid related lockdown and I also lead intense revision sessions for their Exams at the end of the year. Not only do I have good subject knowledge for physics and maths, I am also trained by the school and senior teachers on how to plan lessons properly and teach children with a variety of learning needs. I have a good set of resources for all content and I have expert subject and exam ( gcse) knowledge.
While I am an engineer and I teach physics and maths, when I was in school I was very creative and science did not always come naturally to me. This personal experience for learning has helped me appreciate that not every student learns in the same way. Because of this, I start the first lesson in a way that helps me to assess the learning needs of my pupil and from there create a lesson plan that suits them the most. For example, if a student struggled to sit in one place and and listen to an explanation, my lessons would focus on learning content through kinematic means ( doing things). This same technique is applied and used to tailor the lesson to suit someone who learns visually or audibly. In addition to this, while subject knowledge is important, I also know that exam experience is a reason for students to have lower than expected test/ class results. Therefore, I always incorporate exam questions and mark scheme analysis into my sessions, meaning that my tutees do not suffer in their tests from a lack of exam experience but are free to focus on learning the subject content.
