I am a retired teacher and Head of Science, 33 years of teaching experience. 2024 DBS check. I am new to First Tutors but have tutored locally for the last two years and have really enjoyed sharing my subject knowledge with my tutees. I marked GCSE Physics papers for several years. I am a Parkrunner, church treasurer and enjoy spending time in my garden. One-to-one tuition is priced at £38 per hour for KS3, £40 ph for GCSE and £45 ph for A Level.
I have 33 years of teaching experience in three state secondary schools, one selective grammar and two comprehensive schools. I was Physics teacher, then Head of Physics and ultimately Head of Science. For several years I was an examiner for AQA GCSE Physics. I taught 11-16 Science (KS3 Science then separate Sciences GCSE (Physics, Chemistry and Biology), and also 17-18 year old students A Level Physics. I have had the privilege of teaching many, many wonderful students, some of whom went on to top universities to study Physics.
Currently I am tutoring either in person (at their home or mine) or online to students from year 8-13.
I love my subject and I do try to make it interesting! If there is an anecdote, an experience I have had or an experiment I can incorporate into a tuition session, I will do that. I can talk about the two weeks I spent at a nuclear power station studying the different roles of the workers there, or my visits to CERN. I have recently written a GCSE Energy course which is available on TES resources. I am in the process of writing a GCSE Electricity course to follow.
I am happy to tutor on specific topics, providing my own bespoke resources, a selection of exam questions, or we go through past papers, depending on age or stage.
Although face-to-face tuition is my preference, I have tutored online and I am proficient in switching between cameras to enable a productive and positive experience.
