I am a current head of science and I have been a science teacher for 28 years, being Head of Science at 3 schools. My specialist subject is Physics but I have taught GCSE science and level 2/3 engineering. My GCSE and A level results at all my schools have been consistently above national average.
I have taught physics and science in 5 different schools. these have all been high achieving schools, including a grammar school.
I have been a GCSE and A level physics examiner with AQA for 20 years and understand the requirements of all science courses in depth.
I have tutored students in school and privately for over 10 years with most of my students achieving the grades they were hoping for.
My approach is first to find the strengths and weaknesses of my students. I use my knowledge of current examination guidelines to generate a personalised learning plan. This involves preparing lessons on areas of weakness, providing support on exam technique, assessing students regularly and proving feedback on areas for future sessions.
Being a practising teacher I have access to materials and resources only available in schools. These include the latest examination board materials, examiners reports and a full understanding of curriculum changes.
I am a firm believer in being honest with parents and students alike. A good tutor cannot get a student a good grade, this has to be achieved by the student, The tutors job is to guide and support the student, help them focus on easy wins and highlight areas of weakness that need addressing.
