I am an experienced Secondary English teacher living in the North of Glasgow. I have been tutoring for over 10 years and have an excellent track record with pupil results. I have an enhanced disclosure with Disclosure Scotland. I mark for the SQA at Higher level and am a team leader for National 5 level marking, therefore you can be certain that your child will receive up to date information about skills and content required for the exam. I have tutored a variety of pupils from s3 to s5 but as I also teach advanced higher I can tutor up to s6. I have an excellent track record with tutees and my patient approach has helped all achieve their very best. Tutees enjoy their sessions with me as I aim to make them not only challenging but enjoyable!
I have taught in four schools in Scotland. This has given me experience of both independent (private) and state school teaching. I also have experience teaching in South Africa and delivering school speaker workshops for the Red Cross. I am up to date with all current Scottish National Qualifications and the criteria to which these are assessed. I am also currently assessing and teaching to these criteria. Due to the quick and substantial changes that the SQA often make to the exam, I feel that it is vital that tutors work in the sector and train for the courses they teach to tutees. I also currently mark and team lead for the SQA, therefore am very aware and up to date with the standard.
My patience and encouraging nature translates to my teaching practice. I will work together with my tutee to ensure they achieve their very best. After initially assessing their development needs these will be focused on throughout my time as a tutor. I will also focus on any issues that parents and the tutee consider to be key areas for improvement. There will be a great deal of discussion with the parent and the learner themselves to ensure that the tutee understands their learning aims. Students learn more effectively when they are aware of their specific learning criteria and their end goals. I always make effort to break down the knowledge and make lessons as engaging and accessible as possible.
