My students know me as Teacher Maria, and I have been teaching for 8 years. I hold a BSc (Hons) degree in Computer Science from the University of Hull, which included modules in GCSE/A-Level Maths. Additionally, I have a 120-hour i-to-i TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate and an NCFE Level 2 Teaching Assistant certification, covering Safeguarding and Prevent, Understanding Behaviours that Challenge, and Understanding Mental Health.
Teaching has been my passion since childhood, and it has always come naturally to me. I would eagerly help classmates who were struggling with their work, and as I got older, I found joy in assisting my nieces and nephews with their homework. That’s when I realised my love for teaching and decided to pursue it professionally—and I’ve never looked back.
I have taught students aged 3 to 18, as well as adults, across a range of subjects, including English, Maths, and Computer Science. My experience includes working online and in multiple schools as a teaching assistant, supply teacher, cover supervisor, and exam invigilator. Before that, I taught English as a Second Language (ESL) in China and Thailand. Additionally, I have experience teaching adults at a local Community Learning Centre, delivering ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) lessons.
My teaching approach is dynamic and adaptable, incorporating real-life materials, props, interactive games, practical activities, visual aids, and audio resources, among others. I tailor my methods based on an initial assessment of each student's abilities, ensuring they feel comfortable and can learn effectively. This is especially important for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
I am committed to providing high-quality, engaging lessons tailored to each student’s unique needs. My pricing reflects the time, effort, and resources invested in delivering the best learning experience. However, my priority is not just the cost—I genuinely care about helping my students succeed and build confidence in their education.
To track progress, I maintain a student portfolio for each learner. These portfolios include details about their behaviour, strengths, areas for improvement, and future development goals. They not only help students monitor their growth but can also be valuable for college and job applications, as they demonstrate accountability and ownership of their learning. The skills developed through this process are transferable and can benefit both their personal and professional lives.
I offer a trial lesson at half price to give students the opportunity to experience my teaching approach before committing to full lessons. My teaching style is diverse and engaging, and throughout my years of teaching, I have consistently received positive feedback on my interaction with students and lesson delivery.
