Teaching has been my main career & I have taught in Comprehensive & Grammar Schools. I took early retirement & have been home tutoring students for 8 years. I also organise school links between UK & Ghanaian Schools & accompany some of the students on their trips to Ghana to visit their partner schools. My main pastime used to be riding, as I used to have my own horse but I only ride occasionally now. I am married & have 3 grown up children

Tutoring Experience

I have many years of experience teaching Biology at A level and Biology & Physics to GCSE level. I have taught in Comprehensive and Grammar Schools and I was Head of Biology in my last full time position. I have experience with helping students who are aiming at A grades as well as those wanting to achieve a ‘safe pass’. For the past few years I have been tutoring students on a one-to-one or small group basis. I have successfully helped some students for 4 years, through both their GCSE & A level Biology.
I am also an experienced examiner for AQA GCSE Biology so I am very aware of the skills which are needed to be developed to accurately answer exam questions
I have also tutored students under the LEA ‘Home Tuition’ program These are students who were not attending school for a variety of reasons.
A have tutored students for the new A level syllabus for AQA, OCR and Edexcel as well as the IB Biology exam.

Tutoring Approach

I believe in helping students by ensuring that basic concepts are really understood, not just learnt by rote This is essential if the more challenging ideas are to be used to answer exam questions. I also try & use as many visual aids as possible to help students learn & remember important information. It is important for a student to have confidence in their abilities and this happens as understanding grows.
Good exam technique is essential if you are to achieve a good grade. I will help you to understand what the question is really asking and how to accurately answer it.
