A passionate and caring teacher with over 30 years' experience as a classroom teacher and one-to-one tutor (Geography and Science) at a variety of levels. I have taught in both State and Independent Secondary Schools/Colleges (including Godalming College). Over my 30 years working as a personal tutor, I am known for my flexibility, being able to adapt the lessons to the individual needs of the student, so building their confidence enabling them to achieve their absolute best in exams. Over the summer months, I have helped many A-Level students with their Geography NEAs, the practical element of the A Level Course. Also, my exam technique booster sessions give much needed exam confidence before external exams. Tuition takes place from my home in a variety of subjects at KS3 (including Maths and English) and the sciences up to GCSE.
Over many years of being a qualified 11-18 teacher, I have taught Geography and Science (but also Maths, English and RE at KS3 and KS4) in many schools across Surrey and Hampshire, both large and small, State and Private. My tutoring experience spans over 30 years and I still enthuse about my subjects. As a classroom teacher, I am familiar with most of the exam board specifications, and in addition, I mark for one of the main exam boards, a skill which parents and students appreciate! Recently I have trained as a Specialist Teacher with Helen Arkell Dyslexia Charity, and so I can now tutor in Literacy (KS2 and KS3) helping pupils with neurodiversity's such as dyslexia, dyspraxia or dyscalculia, who are bright but learn in a different way.
As a mum of 4 children (2 boys, 2 girls) who have all been through college and university, I understand both the teacher and parental perspective, I am familiar with parental concerns. As a result, my lessons are custom made, focusing on building subject knowledge and confidence, teaching study skills and perfecting that all important exam technique! In addition to my wide experience and teaching skills, I have invested in plenty of excellent resources which I am more than happy to share. Feedback from both students and parents is always very positive. It is always a good sign when students tell me how they got on results day, and how their grades have improved on their predictions. This makes all the hard work worth it. Also to witness how students have grown in confidence, achieved their target grades, preparing them for the next step in life, whether this be university or otherwise! I am here to teach, help and encourage!
