Lyndsey

I graduated from the University of St Andrews in 1997 and subsequently with a second degree from the University of Glasgow in 2014.
I welcome pupils into my own home in Helensburgh for tuition, as I have done for over 15 years.
I am a fully vetted PVG scheme member in respect of regulated work with children and adults through Disclosure Scotland.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching English and French for over 15 years. In addition to preparing my pupils to tackle Highers, National 4 & 5, Advanced Higher, A Levels, Common Entrance and University assessments with confidence, I have vast experience in supporting young people and adults with a variety of requirements. I support my pupils with English language, French Study Skills, Health and Social Care, including Nursing exams and assignments.
I am familiar with the requirements of the Curriculum for Excellence and have been supporting and guiding pupils and parents through the transition to the new assessment system. I have developed my own unique English and French language programmes and cater for those with dyslexia and specific learning needs and have also homeschooled children. I cover all levels from age 6 to adult, including reading, writing, spelling, grammar, comprehension, close reading, literary criticism, textual analysis and evaluation, creative writing, study skills, reasoning and exam technique.

Tutoring Approach

I tailor my tuition to the needs of the individual. I focus on encouragement and developing areas of strength as well as addressing areas where improvement is needed. I aim to engage learners actively so that the learning process is enjoyable and approachable and to build confidence and minimise stress, adapting to each individual's needs and promoting health and wellbeing in those I teach.
