Hello I'm Luke - if you've ever had that teacher that inspired you to succeed in an area that once felt impossible you'll know how powerful that experience can be. I'm a friendly physiotherapist with a passion for and experience of teaching.
I have qualifications in mathematics and English. Though I prefer teaching in person (usually promotes a deeper understanding and faster progress) I am enthusiastic about supporting students online too.
My main role (living in Bournemouth) is helping a variety of patients to learn and move through different injuries and conditions. I work often within Intensive Care, inpatient wards and the musculoskeletal outpatient clinic. I maintain high levels of professionalism with every person I treat and train.
I am a keen reader, runner and climber!
During my GCSE and A-level I excelled in English more naturally than I did at maths (sound familiar?) I found learning maths theory challenging to learn and successfully apply to problems. I worked hard to achieve the higher grades that I did.
I recognise that having someone to help and guide me beyond my teachers; providing 1:1 support would have made the journey more fulfilling and assisted smarter thinking.
As part of my physiotherapist' journey I've enjoyed teaching a range of physiotherapy students on placement and at university to undergraduate level; I discovered a passion for helping students of all levels increase their knowledge and understanding. A vital part of each of my days as a physiotherapist reflects a passion for helping people learn about their injuries and how to get better.
I have actively gathered teaching and presentation experience at high levels: at the Health Sciences University, Nuffield Health and at University Hospital of Dorset.
Let's start with what you know and which areas you're comfortable applying yourself to. From there let's bring in the problems, knowledge areas and skills that you haven't yet consolidated (you will!).
Through each lesson I'll explore specific maths problems with you; helping you gain knowledge of theory , increase your understanding and apply skills.
If your area to improve is English let's look at how to quickly, effectively and efficiently gather information from what you're reading, how to analyse writing and construct your own answers, essays and passages.
I am a practiced listener and will consistently try to find the best way in which you learn, motivating you and checking your progress.
Lesson length usually 1-2 hours, with regular breaks (so important!) to refresh and check learning.
