Lucy

I am training to be a teacher at Middlesex University, about to start my second year. I have gained practical experience helping children learn both at school and volunteering at brownies, where I support weekly sessions and assist with activities. I have also just returned from spending the summer as a camp counsellor at a summer camp in Pennsylvania. In my free time, I enjoy reading books and discovering new stories. I would describe myself as friendly, reliable, hardworking and patient.

Tutoring Experience

I completed a trainee teacher placement in reception for 8 weeks. As part of this I taught weekly phonics and maths lessons, adapting lesson content to reinforce key concepts and support varying ability levels. I also regularly worked with small groups to support writing development. I supported children with early reading by listening to them read regularly and guiding them with sounding out and blending words. I assisted in lesson planning, contributing ideas and resources to align with EYFS curriculum goals. I have also done work experience in classrooms from year 1 to year 6, helping support pre-key stage children with maths and English, helping them to formulate sentences and to carry out tasks set by the teacher.

Tutoring Approach

As a teacher I try to be patient and encouraging, helping children to feel comfortable asking questions and trying their best. I try to break information and instructions down into simple steps. I am also aware that every child learns differently and therefore adapt my teaching style depending on the child or group of children. I try to be energetic and engaging to help make learning fun and enjoyable for children.
