Tutoring and mentoring students of all abilities from age 9 to 17, from state and independent schools, both online and face-to-face.
I have 13 months of experience (from academic year 2017/2018) teaching abroad for one of the top private educational establishments in the world, Carfax Education.
During this time I taught over thirty students with ages ranging from 7 to 42. By tutoring over 20 hours per week I clocked up over 1000 hours of teaching experience.
Over a three month period I taught a class of 14 students of ages 12-14.
I have assisted in preparing students for ISEB 11+ and 13+ common entrance exams and one of my former GCSE students received an offer for sixth form entry into Cheltenham Ladies' College.
I was responsible for the mathematics education of one 14-year-old student for the entire academic year. During this homeschooling his progress was monitored by regular testing and he significantly improved his scores and attainment.
Some success stories:
online tuition for GCSE mathematics, enabling a student to achieve a grade 7 when they were predicted a grade 5;
ISEB 13+ entrance preparation: increased a dyslexic student’s exam scores from 36% to 63% in physics and 37% to 73% in mathematics;
increased the maths MAP score of one student by 15 points (her projected improvement was eight points);
increased the scaled mathematics PSAT score of one student by 140 points in 22 days;
secured a 9/10 maths score for a 14 year old at a Russian school in Baku;
raised on 11-year-old’s scores from a failing average of 54% to scores of over 80% at SABIS International School Baku.
I am an experienced maths tutor providing online lessons to any age and any ability of student. I would love to hear from you if your are a maths genius or if you think you are terrible at maths!
I use an online whiteboard which has been created specifically for online tutors. I can also use Zoom or Skype as the student prefers. After a lesson is finished I can send the student a recording of the entire lesson (if they wish) and a pdf document of all the work we did together. I use the latest techniques in online tutoring including screen sharing and remote control. I am happy to run through all of this in the free first lesson! Give it a try! You will benefit fully from online tuition if you have access to some type of digital writing instrument. These start from £20 for a digital pen with a writing pad. If you have a Macbook Pro or Microsoft Surface (or other similar touchscreen computer), you should be ok just using that.
I believe in teaching mathematics as a language. This means that I prefer a student to gain mastery of a topic before extending the topic or moving on to a different one.
I also believe that giving a student confidence and inspiring them to rise to challenges can be extremely important with maths, a subject which many students fear. It's also important to never give up, and to encourage students to understand that they learn more when they struggle with a difficult problem, than when they finish a question easily with minimal effort.
My focus on mastery of a topic and of embracing struggle has been inspired by Salman Khan who created Khan Academy.
In addition, I believe that every student is different and I modify my teaching methods accordingly. I can offer practice exams if required as I have access to a large selection of exam papers for all ages. These exams can take place during an online lesson just like a real mock exam. I will then mark the exam and we can go through it together in the next lesson.
