Hello,
My name is Lowri, and I am a friendly and enthusiastic person looking to tutor alongside my current job. I am a newly qualified primary school teacher who is currently completing my induction year as a teacher. I have over six years of experience in the primary school sector, which includes two teaching placements and full-time work as a teacher assistant. I work as a supply teacher in Bridgend and Rhondda, covering the primary phase (Nursey to year six).
I am a passionate, hard-working and motivated individual who wants to help my pupils achieve their maximum potential with their studies while equipping them with the support they require.
Due to my long-term school experience, I am strongly knowledgeable of the current Welsh primary curriculum and the progression of steps one, two and three. I understand how significant and challenging it can be for a parent and pupil to achieve the expected high standards.
During the first lesson, I will understand the key requirements and objectives of the pupil. I will then set targets in which we will work on to allow them to attain a higher grade and understanding. Also, doing this will allow me to determine any weaknesses within a subject.
I am very patient and prefer to tutor by steadily working through problems with the pupil before monitoring them as they do it alone. I am open to any questions about the work and will use relevant exercises and varied learning techniques. But also, I prefer a partnership with the pupil rather than one way; I aim to establish communication and discussion to comprehend the content. I want to ensure that my pupils are comfortable and do not feel pressured in any way.
To conclude, I have struggled in some lessons myself when I was younger and was diagnosed with dyslexia; this allowed me to think outside the box and work harder than my peers. I, therefore, understand how hard and stressful it can feel to fulfil potential, but I'd love to help you get there!
With over six years of experience working with children, my journey in education has been both diverse and enriching. During my undergraduate degree, I completed numerous work placements, which solidified my passion for teaching. After graduation, I took a year off to further immerse myself in education, gaining valuable hands-on experience as a teaching assistant. This experience deepened my understanding of classroom dynamics and child development, leading me to pursue a Primary PGCE. Since then, I have been working as a supply teacher for nearly three years and am now entering my second year as a private tutor.
My teaching approach is tailored to each child's unique learning style, ensuring that lessons are personalized to meet their individual needs. I incorporate a wide range of resources, including games, worksheets, and iPads, to keep lessons engaging and interactive. Every session is designed to be both enjoyable and goal-oriented, with clear, achievable targets set within the time frame. To motivate and encourage progress, I use various reward systems such as stickers, stamps, and prizes, which children can redeem whenever they choose. This helps create a positive and supportive learning environment.
