I'm a fully qualified teacher with 25 years experience. I still love the job and still love history. I have also worked as an examiner for AQA, have experience with home schooled students as well as those attending schools and colleges. I have been a private tutor for the past eight years, after years of teaching in college settings.
I teach across OCR, AQA and Edexcel for both GCSE and A Level. I also teach the international components and have taught students via zoom in the UAE, China, Africa and Europe. I have a track record of great results and have helped students to gain places at Oxford and Cambridge, as well as Winchester School.
I have undertaken additional training to help in my teaching of students with ADHD to deliver meaningful lessons. I have taken students through the retake process, the outcome being A* and As.
Everyone learns in different ways and I look at how best to get the information across. I look at what the student wants to improve upon and how they might achieve these improvements. I use a whiteboard, documentary clips, extra reading which I use from my own resources such as handouts and booklets. I have a huge library of resources as well as all the textbooks needed for the courses. I have also written UCAS statements for independent students.
I realise that some bits of history are more challenging than others, some bits aren't as interesting as others! I try to make the subject more relevant and relatable; I'll break down the content to make it more manageable. I am a stickler for showing students how to write essays and all the competencies from day one. I can set and mark work, I forge great relationships with parents and students alike. I see my role as a mentor as well as teacher and I work hard to instil confidence in all my students.
