I am a current 6th year medical student at the University of Cambridge. Having achieved a 2:1 in Preclinical Medical Studies (psychology, neuroscience and behaviour) just over a year ago. I, therefore, have the necessary experience to tutor Biology at A-level and GCSE, and Maths,Physics and Chemistry at GCSE and IGCSE level. I studied Further Maths, Maths, Chemistry and Biology at A-Level, receiving a AA*A*A respectively. In my GCSEs I got 10 A*s in Maths, English Literature, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, French, Geography, History and Ancient Greek.
I am an easy to talk to person, who works hard to help whoever needs it. I am happy to set homework to further each tutee's progress. I also believe I have experience using online platforms for meetings, by using Zoom over lockdown to organise patient interviews required for my course, including the use of waiting rooms as well as with other tutess in the past when it is not possible to meet in person.
I have experience tutoring maths and science at all levels from 11+/Sats to a-level. This has taught me how important it is to cover exam techniques and adapt each session to each specific tutee. The aim is to maximise each tutee's full potential.
Moreover, I was a part of the Student Learning Community in sixth form. Our aim was to discuss and explore what the best learning and revision techniques were to help implement them throughout our school and this will ensure I will make my tutoring efficient and effective for each tutee.
I also have experience helping with reading with Reception-age children at West London Free School in my lunchtimes at school, which taught me to be patient with each student.
Finally, I have experience babysitting children between 2 and 13 which included putting them to bed at the right time, and ensuring they have eaten their dinner and brushed their teeth. This can be applied to tutoring because tutoring requires a firm but gentle approach to ensure tutees are able to reach their fullest potential.
First, my aim is to meet and get to know the potential tutee and work out exactly what they want to get out of the tutoring and what their objectives are as well as which topics they might be struggling with. After this, I establish which board/key stage each tutee is working towards and tailor their tutoring to the syllabus they are doing.
I will endeavour to explain parts they do not understand in the problem topics we have identified together and find exam questions to test the knowledge we have just covered as well as continue to test them in subsequent sessions, through interleaved learning. I will also ask the tutee each week if they are finding anything particularly difficult. Finally to add the finishing touches, teaching tutees easy exam techniques to boost their marks and where the marks are for specific questions
