As well as being a mum to two primary aged children (and a slightly bonkers spaniel), I'm also a headteacher and Modern Foreign Languages teacher. I'm down to earth and good fun as well as being very driven and having high expectations, and this comes across in my work. I love languages and the way they allow you a window into another culture and the opportunity to really get to know people in other countries. The students I have taught and their parents have told me that I'm really good at what I do, and I pride myself in supporting all students to realise their potential. When I'm not being passionate about education and languages, I love yoga, baking, dog walks, being by the sea or in the mountains or consuming books from my large "To Be Read" pile!
I have over two decades of teaching experience and I have taught primary through to A level students in my time. I have consistently helped every student I have taught to achieve or exceed their target grade, often by as much as 2 whole grades. I have taught students with SEND, native speakers and gifted linguists and I always relish the challenge of getting to know how people learn best, so I can help them to be as successful as possible.
As with any teaching, I work with my students to find the way they learn best and then tailor my approach and resources to their needs and abilities. I play lots of games to reinforce language and grammar and set work to be completed in between lessons, if requested, to support ongoing language acquisition. I love incorporating cultural aspects to bring the language to life for my pupils. I am very supportive and skilled at explaining complex or new topics. My teaching approach aligns with Rosenshine's principles to ensure the most effective and enjoyable learning process.
