I am a professional musician with a lifelong enthusiasm for education, particularly for encouraging people of all ages to discover the possibilities, and develop their potential and confidence, in all areas of life and learning. I am an experienced teacher of piano, singing and music theory, working with all ages and all abilities, and also support learners in English and maths .
I have a friendly, creative, relaxed personality, and enjoy seeing people grow in their confidence and ability, through listening carefully and working supportively with them to maximise strengths and address areas of struggle.
I have spent well over thirty years supporting children and adults in developing not just musical abilities but a wide range of study skills (including literacy and numeracy), motivational and learning strategies. I have concentrated mostly on 1:1 tuition, and have acquired additional training in listening and counselling skills. The qualifications, skills and experience I have gained have equipped and inspired me to provide creative, focused support in ways appropriate to each individual.
I have tutored children and adults in piano, singing and music theory. I have also home-schooled my own five children through to secondary level, including successful 11+ entrance.
I have worked with talented children and with children who have learning difficulties. I have coached young adults and professionals who want to improve their existing abilities, and older adults who want to begin in music.
I believe in treating each student as an individual, and seek to encourage and support them in their learning, drawing on a wide variety of resources and styles. I aim to make the learning process a positive and happy one where students feel accepted and encouraged, as well as stimulated to reach forward to improve their skills.
I thoroughly enjoy sharing the learning adventure with each student, watching for the "Aha" moment as new insights are discovered or new skills mastered.
