I am an experienced and fully qualified teacher of over 10 years, whose passion is helping students acquire their full potential. I am a great believer in allowing students to get involved in their learning rather than just sitting listening; I am also a current Team Leader for Psychology and assess the quality of marking for GCSE and AS/A2 level exams, as well as marking them myself, i therefore have excellent knowledge about exam questions, preparation and what the exam boards are looking for. I am fully up to date with the new specifications across all exam boards, and have attended courses to ensure quality of teaching and how to prepare students for exams. I am available both during the day and the evening, and i am prepared to travel; I will give a taster session to any student to see whether tutoring style is to your liking
I have been classroom teaching for 6 years and also personal tutoring for the last 5 Years. I have taught A level Psychology legacy and new specifications. (OCR/EdExcel/AQA)Sociology (AQA/OCR) with great success; I have also extensive experience teaching Health and Social Care at level 1,2 and 3 (BTec 1st, OCR national level 2 and 3) and A level; I have also recently been teaching A level Citizenship where students have gained A grades, and have taught key stage 3 History and GCSE RE.
My students gained 100% pass rate for the June 2017 exam series in Psychology and Sociology A levels i including straight As for one student in Psychology. I had students gaining distinctions in Health and Social Care, up from a Pass in their first year. All students gained places at their first choice universities including Loughborough, Lancaster and Liverpool. I also helped final year degree students through their dissertation and exams with great success. (gaining 2:1s)
I prefer my tutoring to be student centred, to allow the student to get involved in their learning, although i will tailor all my lessons to the preferred style of learning of the student. I aim to make lessons engaging but with a major emphasis on exam technique; I believe the more a student gets involved in their learning, the more will stick in their memory (using the principles of Psychology) I also place great emphasis on essay writing which is vital in both Psychology and Sociology. From my experience, knowledge about subject content is often high with most students, however the reason they may struggle in exams is down to exam technique; once that is conquered then results tend to follow. A major passion of mine is to make sure that students enjoy the subject and have the confidence to know that they can succeed.
For degree students, i aim to use my vast knowledge of the subject to help them select and use information appropriately within their essays and dissertations. Selecting the most relevant information, and using it appropriately within their work (including referencing) is one of the hardest skills, and i aim to help students become more confident in their ability throughout their lessons with me.
